Financing Study in London

If you are truly interested in gaining a valuable international educational experience, you can apply a variety of financial aid and scholarship resources toward the costs of study abroad.  Below are some of the primary resources students have utilized:

Federal Financial Aid

When you fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid on an annual basis, you are automatically considered for the following federal aid that may also apply to costs of an approved Study Abroad program.

Federal William D. Ford Direct Stafford Student Loan Subsidized
Federal William D. Ford Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan

Gilman Scholarship (for Pell Grant-eligible students only; early deadlines apply).

*Miner II, Trustees II and Excellence II scholarships are specific to non-resident fees only. If you will be participating in a Study Abroad program for which you are ONLY charged resident tuition, you will not receive the Miner II, Trustees II or Excellence II scholarships during your study abroad program; however, the Study Abroad program will NOT be counted as one of your 8 semesters of eligibility for these programs, so you will receive the full 8 semesters of the award as long as you meet eligibility criteria.

S&T International Affairs Scholarship:  Maxwell C. Weiner Assistantship Program for International Exchange

International Affairs administers and awards the Maxwell C. Weiner Assistantship Program for International Exchange. You may apply for this scholarship by submitting the scholarship application and required documentation, which is included in the study abroad material you receive upon program registration, by the appropriate deadline.

MLP Scholarship for English and Technical Communication Majors

The Department of English and Technical Communication offers an annual $5,000 scholarship to study in London as part of the Missouri London Program.  Contact Dr. Malone (malonee@mst.edu) for details.

The S&T Honors Academy will match the study abroad scholarship of a student who is a member of the Honors Academy. For eligibility requirements and information about the Honors Academy Study Abroad Scholarship, see http://ugs.mst.edu/honors/ .

Outside Study Abroad Scholarships

CAPA - Missouri London Program Scholarships

1. CAPA Need-Based Scholarships: Several $2500 and $500 scholarships are available to students whose financial aid package is at least 40% of the program fee and who have a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA.

2. CAPA Merit Scholarships: Several $500 scholarships are available to students who demonstrate high academic merit with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Boren Awards for International Study

Boren Awards are sponsored by the federal government and provide scholarships and fellowships to eligible undergraduates studying abroad who study languages and world regions critical to U.S. national security.

Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship

"Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year."

Honors Academy Scholarship

This matching scholarship for honors students is described above in the paragraph about the MLP scholarship.

Other Scholarships

Some departmental scholarships may be used for study abroad.
